Growing pumpkins

It’s so neat that this Halloween everyone will get to decorate and eat my parents pumpkins!

They look extra orange and fresh to me.

They do what is called square foot gardening.

Everything is in raised beds.

They make their own soil.
1/3 peat, 1/3 vermiculite and 1/3 aged manure.
They don’t use pesticide or fertilizer.

They hardly get any weeds and the plants love it.

This type of gardening is easy for them to work with.

Growing onions

These are red candy onions.

Fresh produce is the best!

Not only does it taste better because you grew it but you know where it came from.

Growing Gladiolus flowers

My parents planted Gladiolus this year and they have bloomed beautifully!

Mom says they take a lot of fussing over but they look terrific on the table.

They planted over 100 bulbs then found out they may need to dig up to winter in the cellar then replant in spring.

If you’re ok with the extra work these are definitely worth it!

Growing sweet peppers

Mom and Dad recently started gardening and have come a long way!

Here are some sweet peppers that they have coming up!

I’ll try and get Mom’s pepper jelly recipe from her… My husband loves eating it with his bagel and cream cheese!

Fun in the sun

20120626-143400.jpg

When it’s a nice day outside that’s where you can find my mini and I!

20120626-143420.jpg
He absolutely loves pointing and tweeting at the birds…
Picking up and throwing pebbles…
Handing mommy acorns from the ground…
Picking flowers/weeds…
Running around with our Saint Bernard…
His favorite is following a bug and I love the way he screams bug in excitement.
Really he enjoys anything outdoors and I enjoy being with him!

I load up on sunscreen as big spray and enjoy some vitamin d!!

Playground fun

20120626-115430.jpg

The playground is a great place for parent and child!
My son absolutely loves the playground!
I still follow him everywhere and am at his side at all times of course because he could easily hurt himself but it just gives us something more to enjoy doing together!

We are lucky and have a wonderful local playground with plenty of options for all ages.

It’s nice to get our children outdoors as much as possible.
You can hangout with a few friends while your children play and it’s a win win day!

Swimming

We recently got a blow up 5 foot wide pool for our son who is now almost 18 months!
He absolutely loves playing in the pool on a hot day and hates to get out.

20120625-120320.jpg
He normally doesn’t wear a shirt with his swim trunks but he had a lot of sun this day so I put one on for comfort.
As you can see the pool is new and we haven’t gotten pool toys yet so I improvised using a couple kitchen gadgets! He is playing with a strainer, sippy cups and a few measuring cups which he is thoroughly enjoying!
He actually ends up drinking a lot of the water so I encourage him to take his pacifier in with him so he doesn’t drink as much!
He loves to jump out and give me a hug to cool me off and get right back in and do it again.
I try and teach him to blow bubbles under water but think its a little ok early for that.
Put a little sun screen and bug spray on… Get outside, enjoy the sun and have some fun! 🙂
